Verizon Boosts Security and Usability With Custom 2FA Solution From miniOrange

Verizon Boosts Security and Usability With Custom 2FA Solution From miniOrange

Verizon Communications Inc. is a global leader in providing innovative communication and technology solutions, with a focus on enhancing customer experiences. Since its inception in 2000, Verizon has been a trailblazer in the digital landscape, committed to advancing technology and delivering outstanding services that exceed customer expectations.

The Requirements:

Verizon approached us with a specific requirement for their Jira and Confluence environments: they needed a robust two-factor authentication (2FA) system that offered flexible yet secure access management based on user location.

The primary challenge was to implement a solution capable of selectively bypassing 2FA for users within trusted IP ranges. This ensured seamless access for internal users while maintaining stringent security measures for external accesses.

Our Solution:

To address Verizon's specific requirements, we developed and integrated a customized feature within our existing 2FA applications for Jira and Confluence. Our solution involved introducing support for Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) notation for IP addresses.

This advanced feature allowed Verizon to define ranges of IP addresses using CIDR, streamlining the management of trusted IPs. Now, users attempting to access the systems from within these specified IP ranges could bypass the 2FA, while any access attempt from outside these ranges would trigger mandatory two-factor authentication.

Advantages of the Solution:

The introduction of CIDR notation brought numerous benefits to Verizon:

  • Enhanced Security and Usability:The provision for skipping 2FA for trusted IP ranges greatly enhances usability for user access from trusted locations while ensuring security for access from non-trusted regions.
  • Reduced Administrative Overhead: Previously, managing individual IP addresses for 2FA exemptions was labor-intensive and error-prone. With CIDR, the process became more streamlined and efficient, significantly reducing administrative burden.
  • Scalability and Ease of Management: As Verizon's network and user base continue to grow, the CIDR feature provides a scalable solution that can easily accommodate expansions without the need to reconfigure individual IP addresses.

Conclusion:

Our customized approach for Verizon underscores our dedication to providing tailored, state-of-the-art technology solutions that address the specific needs of our clients. By implementing CIDR notation in Verizon’s 2FA settings for Jira and Confluence, we bolstered their security measures and improved both user experience and administrative efficiency.

This project showcases our capacity to adapt and innovate in response to our clients' unique requirements, ensuring their ability to operate securely and effectively in today's digital landscape.
