Challenge

DHL, a world leader in logistics, transportation and shipping, needed to combat operational disruptions in their complex supply chain while their employees worked remotely. And hence, they approached us at miniOrange. They handled large datasets of customer information, business data, payment details, shipment details and personal credentials on their cloud. Also, they needed to ensure they complied with their industry regulations.

  • Prone to unauthorized remote access: The remote workforce infrastructure was vulnerable to unauthorized access, and security measures for RDWeb and RDP were absent
  • Bypass of remote access security: Remote workforce access to monitor and manage supply chains from anywhere and its bypass prevention were important using an extra security layer.
  • Lack of secure cloud authentication: Inadequately secured SaaS applications put sensitive business data at risk. Secure and fast cloud authentication bridges the gap.
  • Vulnerable to attacks: The existing authentication process was not sufficient to protect the remote access infrastructure of DHL from potential threats. However, they could use extra layers of authentication to solidify their systems.
  • Regulatory compliance risk: Not meeting compliance standards for the logistics industry invites penalties. However, with better and more secure logins, this risk could be mitigated.
  • Absence of scalable solutions: The existing infrastructure for remote work was not enough to support scalability. A flexible and scalable solution was needed.

Solution

When DHL approached miniOrange, they were looking for a solution that could protect their remote workforce globally. miniOrange took the challenge & provided them with a customized solution compliant with global security standards. We analyzed their need for RDWeb & RDP security & recommended them our best-in-class identity security solutions.

Multi-factor authentication deployed on the cloud

miniOrange provided DHL with a customized cloud MFA for the security of its remote workforce exceeding over 25,000 endpoints across 150 countries. Our MFA solution offered at least three different authentication factors to stop 95% of unauthorized access attempts. The system could adapt to the changing business requirements and sizes to scale as needed.

The MFA mechanism is specifically designed to store an authentication token after user identity verification. This caching dropped down the login times by half and was capable of handling several login requests at once. The cloud-based deployment was quick and successful, with portals like RDweb and RDP access protected 100% using miniOrange MFA.

Professional support throughout the deployment

The deployment acts as a secure gateway to access systems. When a user initiates a connection, miniOrange MFA verifies the user's identity beyond the traditional credentials before it authorizes access. The dedicated MFA cache stores the validated authentication tokens that are used later for faster and more secure logins. It ensures the interfaces of the DHL environment, i.e., RDP and RDWeb and DHL servers, remain controlled.

With our professional support for implementation and post-deployment, we have been able to deliver better results in terms of identity security. DHL’s entire architecture remained stable, and remote workforces were secured efficiently and effectively. Our 24/7 support with quick response times and smooth integration with existing infrastructure created a win-win for DHL to amplify its security to the next level.

Results

Through the miniOrange solution, DHL was able to achieve dramatic results quickly and effectively for the security of its remote workforce using MFA for RDWeb and RDP. These include:

  • Unauthorized Logins Reduced by a Whopping 95%: We significantly reduced the risk of potential threats due to unauthorized logins and stopped MFA bypass.
  • Smooth Vendor Access: 1,000 vendors could easily use a single portal, improving teamwork.
  • 50% Quicker Logins: We implemented MFA caching to lower the login times by half and stopped MFA re-authentication prompts to save employee login times and boost productivity.
  • Critical Infrastructure 100% Secured: The MFA solution protects critical systems like RDWeb, RDP, and SaaS applications on DHL servers.
  • Adapted to Cover Global Ecosystem: Our solution supported global scalability to secure remote access points from RDWeb to RDP across the world.
  • Fast Cloud Deployment with Support: miniOrange deployed MFA for DHL in record time without causing service disruptions and quick response times for support.
