Configure Password Policy with miniOrange DLP solution
In today’s digital landscape, securing sensitive data is more critical than ever. Implementing a strong password policy is a fundamental step in preventing unauthorized access and ensuring compliance with security standards. The miniOrange DLP Password Policy Configuration Guide provides a step-by-step approach to setting up and enforcing password policies on your machines across the organization. This guide will walk you through logging into the miniOrange DLP admin dashboard, configuring password rules, applying policies to devices, and setting up PIN security measures—helping you maintain a secure and compliant IT environment with ease.
Prerequisites
There are a couple of things you need to check before you start with the setup:
- You need Administrator privileges to log in to the miniOrange Admin Dashboard.
Step 1: Configuring Password Policy
- Sign in to your DLP Admin dashboard.
- Then enter your Admin Username and Password.
- Now navigate to the User Profile icon in top-right corner of DLP dashboard and click on Settings.
- Now switch on to the Password Configurations tab.
- In this form, configure the following:
- Minimum Length: Enter the minimum length for the password.
- Password History: Specifies the number of previously used passwords that cannot be reused.
- Password Expiry: Enter the expiration period for passwords. After this period, users must change their password.
- Account Lockout Settings:
a. Logout User After Inactivity Period (Screen Saver): Enter the number of minutes of inactivity after which users will be locked out and will need to re-enter their password.
b. Failed Login Attempts Before Lockout: Specify how many failed sign-in attempts will result in the account being locked.
c. Lockout Duration: Specify the number of minutes before the locked-out account automatically becomes unlocked (between 1 and 99,999).
d. Reset Account Lockout Counter: Select the number of minutes to elapse after a user fails to sign in before the counter is reset to 0.
Note: Lockout Duration must be greater than or equal to the value of Reset account lockout Counter.
- After setting all the configurations, click on the Update button.
Step 2: Applying Password Policies
- Navigate to Manage Devices > Devices and select the device to which you want to apply the password and PIN policies.
- Enable the Apply Password Policy toggle to enforce the password policies for that user. You can also go directly to the password configurations section by clicking on the Configure Password Policy button.
Step 3: How to Set Up a Secure PIN?
- Require at least one lowercase letter (a-z): Check this box if the PIN should contain at least one lowercase letter.
- Require at least one uppercase letter (A-Z): Check this box if the PIN should contain at least one uppercase letter.
- Require at least one number (0-9): Check this box if the PIN should contain at least one number.
- Require at least one special character (@%+/’!#$?:()[]~-_.): Check this box if the PIN should contain at least one special character.
- Maximum Length: Enter the maximum pin length.
- Minimum Length: Enter the minimum pin length.
- Number of Repeats Allowed: Enter the number of unique new pins required before reusing an old pin. This determines the number of pins the user must set before reusing a previous one.
- Pin Expiry: Enter the pin expiration period. After this period, the user’s PIN will expire, and they will be required to change it.
