Password Filter
The Password Filter feature allows administrators to manage a list of disallowed passwords to enforce stronger password hygiene across the organization.
Key functions include:
- Add to Blacklist:
Enter passwords you want to restrict and add them to the blacklist. Users will not be able to use these passwords during password creation or reset.
- Remove from Blacklist:
Delete passwords from the blacklist if they are no longer considered insecure or restricted.
- View Blacklisted Password Count:
Check the total number of passwords currently blacklisted in the system.
- Check Password Status:
Use the interface to check whether a specific password is blacklisted or allowed.
This feature helps prevent the use of weak, common, or previously compromised passwords in Active Directory.
Add Passwords to the Blacklist
To improve security by restricting the use of weak or commonly used passwords, follow these steps to add them to the blacklist:
- In the Password Options dropdown, select Add Passwords to Blacklist.
- Enter the password(s) you want to blacklist in the input field.
- Press Enter after typing each password to add it to the list.
- You can add multiple passwords this way.
- Once all desired passwords are entered, click the Save button to update the blacklist.
- Alternatively, you can upload a list of passwords using a .txt file:
- Drag and drop the file into the designated area or use the Browse option to select it manually.
- Click Save to apply the blacklist.
Blacklisted passwords will be blocked from being used during password creation or resets by end users.
Remove Passwords from the Blacklist
To manage and update your password blacklist by removing specific entries:
- In the Password Options dropdown, select Remove Passwords from Blacklist.
- Enter the password(s) you want to remove in the input field.
- Press Enter after typing each password.
- You can enter multiple passwords to remove them in bulk.
- Click the Save button to update the blacklist.
- You can also remove passwords using a .txt file:
- Select or drag and drop a text file containing the passwords to be removed.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
This feature helps keep the blacklist updated and relevant based on evolving password policies or exceptions.
